The Pioneers offense was sparked by senior Melissa Mezzanotte (North Haven, CT), who went 2-3, and first year transfer Danielle Cantanazaro who drove in the game winning run.
On Sunday, senior Danielle Mellin (La Canada, CA) struck out six in nine innings pitched and the Pioneers scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to edge Holy Cross. Spehar and sophomore Betsy Harvey (Unionville, CT) each had two hits to lead a Pioneer offense which produced 12 base knocks.
In the final game of the weekend Lemanager through another gem, striking out seven Hawks in the shutout victory. Spehar, Harvey and Caroll all had RBI hits to account for the Pioneer runs.
The Pioneers will continue their fall competition slate this weekend when they participate in the St. John's Tournament. The Pioneers will face Long Island and St. John's on Saturday and then round out the weekend against Caldwell and C.W. Post.
