YARMOUTH, ME - Junior Jason Tessitore (Orange, CT) scored his first goal of the season in the 69th minute to break a scoreless tie and help the Sacred Heart men's soccer team a 1-0 decision over the University of Maine on a foggy Friday night.
The two teams played through a scoreless first half, with Maine holding a commanding 6-1 edge in shots.
Freshman Mario Mililli (Shelton, CT) found Tessitore in front of the goal at the 68:36 maek and he beat Maine keeper Nemanja Kostic with a shot that found the far back corner.
Junior Matt Jones (Stoke-on-Trent, England) made four saves for the Pioneers. Black Bear keeper Kostic made one save in the game.
The win gives the Pioneers a 4-3-1 mark and a long break. The next game for the team will be Friday, October 5 at home against Quinnipiac, Maine, which finished with a 9-6 advantage in shots in the game, falls to 1-6 on the season.
