FAIRFIELD, CT -
Senior Jason Tessitore (Orange, CT) scored the game's lone goal at the 22:47 mark to lead the Sacred Heart University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over visiting Robert Morris University in a Northeast Conference game Friday afternoon.
The Pioneers, now 4-6-1 overall and 2-2 in the NEC, outshot the Colonials 19-8 but were only able to push the one goal past RMU keeper Matt Felice. Felice finished the game with six saves.
The only SHU goal came off a pass from senior David Backman (Gothenburg, Sweden) and Tessitore chipped it past a diving Felice into the left corner of the net.
Of the eight Colonial shots, only three of them were on goal and only one - by freshman Matt Sheibley - was strong enough to force SHU keeper Matt Jones (Stoke-on-Trent, England) into making a tough save.
The loss dropped Robert Morris to 2-11-2 overall and 0-4-1 in the conference.
The Pioneers will be in action again on Sunday at noon at home against Saint Francis(PA).
