
Veterans Power Women's Hockey to 4-2 Win on Senior Day

Bridgeport, CT- The women's hockey team closed out its home schedule with a 4-2 victory over Rhode Island Saturday afternoon at the Wonderland of Ice. Senior Maria Lascala (Chestnut Ridge, NY) scored a goal and added an assist in her final home game in a Pioneer uniform. Fellow seniors Gina Arnone (Bridgewater, NJ) and Jaclyn Rideout (Wilmington, MA) also notched goals as Kristina Feltz (Edison, NJ) posted two assists.
Sacred Heart jumped out early on a Taryn Lapierre (Oakland, RI) short-handed marker just six minutes into the contest. Arnone, who has 121 career points and 72 goals, put the Pioneers up 2-0 two minutes into the second frame. Feltz was credited with an assist on each of the Pioneers first two goals. LaScala sent the Pioneers into the second intermission with a 3-0 lead scoring with an assist from LaPierre.
Rhode Island fell into a 4-0 hole after Rideout lit the lamp for SHU six minutes into the third period, LaScala and Nicole Palazzo (Rocky Hill, CT) earned assists on the goal. URI found two goals late in the third period from Jolene Rambone and Kate Garica but could not get any closer as the Pioneers skated to a 4-2 triumph.
Sacred Heart will close out the 2008-09 season at the ECAC Open Tournament. The tournament will feature a four team field including Sacred Heart, Holy Cross, Saint Anselm, and St. Michael's. The semifinals are scheduled for February 28th with the championship game and consolation game to be played March 1st.
