Sophomore Kirill Kasyanov (Yonkers, NY) has been named the Northeast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 31-April 5. Kasyanov also was tabbed as the Enterprise Rent-A-Car/Sacred Heart University Student-Athlete of the Week for the same time period.
Kasyanov posted a 5-1 record on the week, including a 3-0 mark in singles action. Thursday against Quinnipiac Kasyanov lost just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 domination of the top singles match helping the Pioneers to a 4-3 win over their archrival. On the weekend, he didn't drop a set in wins over regionally ranked Ivan Rummel of Stony Brook (6-2, 7-6) and Roman Silin of Niagara (6-1, 6-3). Kasyanov also won doubles matches against Quinnipiac and Stony Brook on the week. Kasyanov is now 11-1 in singles action during the spring season, all of which has come in the number one singles slot.
The Pioneers are back in action Tuesday as they host Fairleigh Dickinson. Sacred Heart will then travel to Hofstra Thursday afternoon.
