FAIRFIELD, Conn. - It was yet again the first-year players showing big as the Sacred Heart men's tennis team traveled to crosstown rival Fairfield University this past weekend for the Fairfield Invitational.
First-year Tomasz Garbacz went 2-2 overall playing first singles and first doubles. He beat Marist's Ian Layton on Friday 7-6, 6-4 and teamed with senior transfer Frederick McRae on Saturday morning to defeat Fairfield's #1 team of Diego Alcala and Kostas Kollais. 6-3.
He also earned singles wins on the weekend with first-years Martin Macias and Darren Huang on Friday against Marist. The doubles team of junior Brennan Hart-Nova and junior Oswaldo Rodriguez also posted a victory at second doubles over Fordham.
The Pios are back in action when the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Masters Tournament gets underway on October 3rd in Hamden, Conn. (Hosted by Quinnipiac).
