EDISON, NJ — The Sacred Heart University Men's Tennis team saw its season-long growth recognized by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), highlighted by Tomasz Garbacz earning MAAC Rookie of the Year honors alongside a MAAC Second Team Singles selection, while senior Frederick McRae added Third Team Singles recognition for the Pioneers.
Garbacz emerged as a steady presence in his first collegiate campaign, posting 10 singles victories overall for the Pioneers. He proved especially effective in conference action, posting a record of 5-3 at the #1 position. Garbacz becomes only the second Pioneer men's tennis player to earn conference "Rookie of the Year" in the 32 years of SHU Tennis.
McRae's consistency also played a major role for Sacred Heart, as he compiled 9 overall singles wins during the 2025-26 campaign. He held his own in MAAC play with a 4-3 mark while playing #2 singles for the Pioneers. McRae closed the season with momentum, winning five of his last seven matches to underscore his fine late season form en route to all-conference honors.
Sacred Heart's recognition in the MAAC postseason awards reflects the individual strides made throughout the year. SHU improved its MAAC conference record from the 2024-25 season, which included a win over the 2025 MAAC Champion Quinnipiac in late March.
