Box Score NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Sophomore defender
Marcello Castro (Parana, Brazil) tallied his team-leading fifth
score of the year to give the Sacred Heart men's soccer team
a 1-0 win at Central Connecticut State, Sunday afternoon.
With the win the Pioneers are now 10-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the
Northeast Conference, while the Blue Devils dropped to 3-9-2,
0-5-2.
Castro's goal came in the 77th minute of play
and was set up by a cross into the box from sophomore Justin Brewer
(Somers, Conn.). Senior Lusiano Dadario (East Haven, Conn.)
received the cross and tapped it to Castro who ripped the game
winning shot into the net.
For Sacred Heart, this is just the second time in the
program's Division I history that it has reached the 10-win
plateau.
Junior goalkeeper Alex Fait (Ottawa, Ont.) made three saves to
earn his fifth shutout of the season and fourth in league
play. In net for Central, sophomore Anthony Occhialini
stopped one shot. SHU held a slight edge on shots, 9-8, over
the Blue Devils.
The Pioneers return to action with a non-conference match-up
against Army on Campus Field at 7:00 pm on Wednesday.
