
Men's Soccer Beats First Place CCSU 2-0, Now Unbeaten in Six Straight

(Fairfield, CT) – Marcello Castro (Panana, Brazil)and Brian Francolini (Ellington, CT) scored for the Sacred Heart Men's Soccer team, as the Pioneers climbed up the NEC standings in a 2-0 win over the first-place CCSU Blue Devils Sunday afternoon.
Castro scored his team leading fifth goal of the season, driving a free kick 30 yards for the game's first goal in the 39th minute from the right side.
Francolini sealed the victory with a one-on-one chance with CCSU goalkeeper Anthony Occhialini, knocking a shot to the right after a perfectly-time lead pass over the defense by Artur Jorge (Shelton, CT) in the 59th minute.
Alex Fait (Ottawa, ON) made four saves for his seventh shutout of the year. His best stop came in the 20th minute, coming out to challenge a near clean break by Eddy Bogle.
The Pioneers improved to 4-1-2 and a tie for third in the NEC. They are also undefeated in their last six games (3-0-3). Sacred Heart is next in action next Sunday, Oct. 30 on the road against St. Francis (NY).
