NEW HAVEN, Conn. (February 19, 2011) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team notched a 7-0 win over Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon at Yale University. The win improves the Pioneers to 4-1 in dual matches.
The Pioneers didn't drop a set, sweeping the doubles point and all six singles matches. Junior Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) led the singles charge with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #1 over Molly Montgomery. Fellow junior Delaney Downing (Englewood, CO) won her #6 singles match, 6-2, 6-0 over Emma Rudnik. The duo teamed up for an 8-1 doubles win in the #3 spot over Rudnik and Mary McAuliffe.
Senior Elizabeth Harrington (Westerly, RI) posted a 6-0, 6-0 win in her singles match over Carolyn Chandley. Harrington and junior Kristina Chao (Needham, MA) teamed to beat Chandley and Maya Welch at #2 doubles, 8-6. Chao won at #5 singles, 6-1, 6-0 over McAuliffe.
Freshman Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Emily Marr at #3 singles and senior Darcy Demers (Norton, MA) won at #4 singles, 6-1, 6-0 over Welch. Kaldan and Demers won their #1 doubles match 8-1 over Montgomery and Marr.
The Pioneers are next in action on Saturday, February 26th hosting Bryant at Yale University.
