FAIRFIELD, CT (February 27, 2012) - The Sacred Heart men's tennis team picked-up a pair of wins over the weekend, beating Siena, 5-2, and Saint Peter's, 5-2, to improve to 3-2 in dual match play this spring. The Pioneers have now won three-straight.
Senior Chadd Sullo (Orange, CT) and junior John Lopresti (Syosset, NY) each picked up a pair of singles wins over the weekend. In doubles play, the team of Logan Mohring () and Luka Bagi (Branford, CT) posted a pair of victories in the wins.
In the Siena match, Sullo and Justin Pagan (Flushing, NY) won at #3 doubles, 8-6, over Dylan Roberts and Matthew Funiciello. Mohring and Bagi gave the Pioneers the doubles point by beating Jarrett Siwiec and Darren Reisch, 8-6.
Sullo led the singles charge with a win at #1, 7-5 and 6-3 over Peter Collins. Pagan, Lopresti and Bagi swept their #4 through #6 singles matches for the team win. Pagan beat Siwiec at #4, 6-4 and 7-5. Lopresti won a three-set battle with Reisch taking the first set 6-3 and rebounding from a 7-6 loss in set two with a 10-7 deciding win. Bagi posted a 6-3 and 6-2 win at #6 over Funiciello.
On Sunday, Sullo notched a 6-3 and 6-1 win over Alex Frakes of Saint Peter's at #1. Pagan and Lopresti won at #4 and #5. Pagan beat Luccas Coutinho in a three set battle, losting in the first 7-5 then rebounding to win 7-5 and 7-6. Lopresti also battled his way through three sets with Nicholas De Lima Goulart, losing 6-4 in the first and then ripping off 6-1 and 6-1 wins.
Bagi and Mohring won at #2 doubles beating Coutinho and Carlos Carrera, 8-6. SHU grabbed the doubles point thanks to a walk-over win by Pagan and Lopresti. In singles, Bagi was awarded a walkover win at #6.
The Pioneers are next in action hosting Hofstra on Saturday, March 10th at Yale University.
