Bowins and Sidor Named to All-Northeast Conference Second Team

Sophomore Jade Bowins (Frederick, MD) and junior Nicole Sidor (West Vancouver, BC) both earned a spot on the 2012 All-Northeast Conference Second Team, which was announced last night at the annual awards banquet. Sidor backs up her 2011 All-NEC accolades with a 2012 selection while Bowins secures the first post-season honor of her career.

Sidor claimed the utility spot on the All-NEC Second Team after serving as the Pioneers ace pitcher, right fielder, and leadoff hitter throughout the 2012 campaign. She supplied a team high 27 RBI and launched 11 homers to tie the program's all-time single season homerun mark. In the circle she posted 15 wins along with a 2.45 ERA as well as 181 strikeouts in 185.2 innings of work, averaging 6.82 K's per game.

Bowins paced Sacred Heart with a .302 batting average in 2012 and continually set the table for the middle of the order with her team best .382 on-base percentage. She also stole four bases and laid down nine sacrifice bunt's hitting from the second spot in the batting order. Bowins also excelled in the outfield, racking up seven assists in her first season patrolling center field for the Pioneers.

Bowins and Sidor will return for the 2013 season in which SHU will attempt to win a third NEC title in five years.
