(Fairfield, CT) – The Sacred Heart Field Hockey team improved to 2-1 on the season with a come-from-behind 2-1 win at Holy Cross Sunday afternoon.
Both Pioneer goals came deep in the second half. After a scoreless first half, the Crusaders took a 1-0 lead on a shot from just inside the shell by Megan Bourne, who was set up by Michelle McNeil. However, Liz Bergman (Blandon, PA) tied the game at 57:42 on a rebound in front. Christine Mace (Norwalk, CT) then gave SHU its first lead at 62:52 also on a rebound.
Mary Altepeter (Chesterfield, MO) was stellar in net, making 12 saves. The Pioneers barely outshot the Crusaders 19-18, however dominated the pace of the play through most of the game.
Sacred Heart plays its second game in as many days Monday afternoon at 2:00 pm when they travel to Harvard.
