Pioneers Earn 5-2 Win at URI

KINGSTON, RI (March 29, 2013) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team swept all three doubles matches and took the #3 through #6 singles matches to earn a 5-2 win Thursday afternoon at the University of Rhode Island.

Freshmen Katie DeRienzo (Douglaston, NY) and Lindsay Post (Danbury, CT) led the charge teaming for a doubles win and winning their singles matches in the #3 and #4 slots.  DeRinezo beat Nithila Asokaraj 6-1 and 6-1 while Post won her match over Karolina Wojciak, 6-3 and 6-1.  In doubles play, the duo beat Asokaraj and Wojciak 8-6.

Fellow freshman Paige Olson (Sykesville, MD) won her #5 singles URI rookie Elizaveta Sadovnikova in a third set tie breaker.  Olson won the first set 7-5, lost the second 6-4 and took the tie breaker 10-7.

SHU's fourth freshman Alyssa Migliorini (North Haven, CT) completed the rookie sweep with a win at #6, Lauren Benoit, 6-2 and 6-1.  Olson and Migliorini teamed up to beat Sadovnikova and Benoit, 8-4, at third doubles.

SHU swept doubles with junior Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) and sophomore Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) winning at #1, 9-7, over Galina Chernykh and Kathleen Uy.

The Pioneers are back in action hosting LIU Brooklyn on Tuesday, April 2nd.
