FAIRFIELD, CONN. (September 26, 2013)—Sacred Heart Softball co-head coaches Elizabeth Luckie and Pam London announce Annie Dreher (Saugus, Calif.), Jade Bowins (Frederick, Md.) and Taylor Lane (Lisbon, Conn.) as captains for the upcoming 2014 season.
"Annie, Jade and Taylor have been the mainstay of our program for the last four years," said Luckie. "As the last three that were with us during a championship season, we are hoping their leadership on and off the field get us back to the Northeast Conference and NCAA Tournament."
Last year, the Pioneers placed 10th in the NEC last season going 5-15 against conference opponents, and went 24-30 overall. Dreher, the all-time homerun record holder, led the team sending 10 out of the park last season. 2013's leadoff hitter Bowins' patience at the plate paid off as the centerfielder topped her teammates with 22 walks. Lane, a pitcher used mostly in the relief role, was 2-4 in 2013 with a 4.95 ERA.
Sacred Heart opens the 2014 season on the west coast, playing in the UC Riverside Tournament February 28-March1.
