Pioneers Drop First Match of Spring 6-1`to NJIT

WEST HAVEN, Conn – The Sacred Heart Men's tennis team began the Spring season Saturday night, falling 6-1 to the NJIT Highlanders at Yale University.

Freshman Anthony Savio (Bangalore, India) earned the Pioneers lone victory with a hard fought three set win over Carl Jedlinski. After dropping the fisrt set 5-6, Savio battled back to win the second set 6-4 and then the super tiebreaker, 11-9.

Justin Pagan (Flushing, NY) forced a third set against Holger Norregaard but couldn't close the deal, falling 6-4 in the deciding set. All other Pioneers lost in straight sets.

SHU dropped all doubles matches.

Sacred Heart is back in action on February 1st when they host Boston University in Rocky Hill.
