Men's Soccer Falls 2-0 To Saint Francis University

Box Score

The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team fell 2-0 to visiting Northeast Conference foe Saint Francis University Friday evening on Campus Field.  The loss drops the Pioneers to 0-12-2 on the year and 0-3-1 in league play, while the Red Flash improve to 10-5-1 overall and 4-1-0 in NEC action.

The two squads played a scoreless first half, with the Red Flash holding a 6-2 advantage in total shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.  The Pioneers had the first chance, when Shaquille Suanchez (Kingston, Jamaica) broke free but was stopped by Andrew Garcia (Sicklerville, N.J.).  Pioneer goalkeeper Tucker Hackett (Madison, Conn.) made two stops in the first-half, both in the first 18 minutes of action.

The Red Flash broke through in the 60th minute as Pablo Medina (Monterrey, Mexico) fed a ball to the far sideline where Ryan Byers (Scottsdale, Pa.) collected the ball and beat Hackett back to the near post for the first goal of the game.  The second tally was similar as Conner Rezende (Davie, Fla.) send a pass from midfield to the far sideline for Brendan McGhee (Pickering, Ontario). McGhee touched the ball towards the ending and then cut inside, sending a shot back to the near post for the insurance tally.

Saint Francis U outshot the Pioneers 16-6 on the night, with a 10-1 edge in corner kicks. Hackett and Garcia both made three saves in the game.

Sacred Heart returns to action on Sunday, October 26, when it hosts Robert Morris University.  The game, set for noon, will be played on Campus Field.
