Box Score TEANECK, N.J. – The Sacred Heart men's soccer team closed its 2014 season Sunday night with a 1-0 loss to the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights at University Stadium.
Sacred Heart (0-16-2, 0-6-1 NEC) had a pair of shots in the first five minutes, but the attempts by Mahmoud Kafel (Fairfield, Conn.) and Aaron Schwartz (Waterford, Conn.) were wide of goal. FDU (4-12-2, 2-4-1 NEC) had its first shot in the 11th minute when Enver Caymaz put a shot wide. The Pioneers came close to taking the lead in the 16th minute when Julian Linke (Neiderhausen, Germany) put a header off the crossbar. Caymaz also hit a goalpost for the Knights in the 21st minute. One minute later, FDU had the game's first shot on goal when Tucker Hackett (Madison, Conn.) made a save on a Casey Abelein shot. Hackett needed to make two more saves in the half to keep the game scoreless at the interval.
Schwartz had Sacred Heart's first shot on goal, which came in the 49th minute when his header was stopped by FDU goalkeeper Matthew Weigner. In the 52nd minute, Deshawn Forbes had a header off of a FDU corner kick stopped by Hackett. The Knights broke the tie in the 73rd minute when Christian Dietrich chipped a ball from the top of the 18-yard box over Hackett to make the score 1-0. The Pioneers had a chance to tie the game in the 88th minute when Ezra Siyadhuba (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) hit a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box over the goal.
FDU outshot Sacred Heart 24-8, putting seven shots on goal to the Pioneers' one. Hackett made six saves in the season finale with Weigner needing to stop just one shot for the clean sheet.
