Box Score

Winchendon, Mass. – The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team fell to Franklin Pierce, 6-1, on Friday night at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Alex Davis scored the lone goal of the night for the Pioneers, while Amanda Fontaine made 33 saves in net. The loss drops SHU to 2-5 on the year.

Franklin Pierce (7-1-1) opened the scoring just thirty-two seconds into the game. Fontaine saved an initial shot by Karsyn Baker, only to have Baker gather her own rebound and score to make it 1-0.

Fontaine kept the deficit at one for most of the first period as the Ravens continued to apply pressure, outshooting SHU 16-6 in the frame. Franklin Pierce broke through when Haylee Barbieri gathered the puck after it was chipped into the zone. She sent a pass from the left in front of net, where Marisa Ketterman was able to beat Fontaine at the right post to make it 2-0, 2:21 before the first intermission.

The game remained 2-0 for much of the second period as both teams traded chances. FPU held the slight 13-8 advantage in shots and eventually scored three goals in the final five minutes of the frame to take a 5-0 lead into the intermission.

Colleen Doucette began the flury with 4:26 left on the second-period clock, as her shot from the bottom of the right circle beat Fontaine. Just over two minutes later, Ketterman made it 4-0 when she stole the puck at her own blue line and skated the rest of the way for a breakaway goal. The fifth goal came with thirty-two seconds remaining before the break. Lanie Matsumoto got her stick on a Katie Flynn shot to redirect it into the back of the net.

Sacred Heart outshot Franklin Pierce, 12-10, in the final period, yet it was the Ravens who opened the scoring in the frame just under five minutes in. Baker netted her second of the game to make it 6-0.

The Pioneers got on the board when Davis' shot from the point beat Noelle White. It was the first goal of the season for Davis. The assists came form Alanna Woodford and Casey Stathopoulos, who both are now tied for the team-lead with five assists each.

Franklin Pierce outshot the Pioneers 39-26 for the game. The SHU special teams went 1-4 on the power play and held the Ravens to 0-4 on the night. White made 25 saves in the victory.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow night at the Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton, Conn. at 6 pm.
