Women's Hockey Defeats St. Michael's in Shootout

WORCESTER, Mass – After four clutch saves by senior goalie Mandy Montgomery (Grand Ledge, MI), junior forward Melissa Robbins (Nashua, NH) knocked home the lone shoot-out goal to lift the Pioneers to a 2-1 win over St. Michael's in the ECAC Open Consolation Game Sunday afternoon. SHU wins third place in the ECAC Open for the third consecutive year and closes its season with a record of 6-16-7. 

Before the shootout drama, Montgomery made 23 saves in regulation and overtime to earn the victory.

Robbins also scored the equalizer at 5:01 of the third period on a power play. Megan Ofner (Hamilton, NH) and Natsha Klinoff (Concord, MA) recorded the assists on the play.

St. Michael's took a 1-0 lead on a Emily Loebs goal at 7:48 of the second period, assisted on the play by Fernanda Saavedra and Maire Bartkus.

The Pioneers outshot SMC 44-24, including 14-3 in the second period. Sacred Heart could not score on its first three shootout attempts.
