FAIRFIELD, Conn – Sophomore Katie DeRienzo (Douglaston, NY) won her third consecutive match at number one singles Saturday afternoon in a losing effort as the Pioneers fell 6-1 to the UMass Minutewomen. SHU falls to 7-11 on the season.
With her 6-2, 6-3, win over Sonia Bokhari at number one singles, DeRienzo earned her team-high 12th win of the season and has now won six of her last seven matches at the top spot. Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) snapped a six match winning streak with a 6-3, 6-2 loss at number four singles.
The Pioneers welcome cross-town rival, Fairfield, to the SHU Tennis Courts on Monday afternoon.
