Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women's soccer team came alive for four goals in the second half of Friday's game against the Manhattan Jaspers, blanking Manhattan 4-0 in the first game of the Yale Classic at Reese Stadium.
Sacred Heart (3-3-1) put two shots on net in the first seven minutes. Emily Dawidczyk (Oxford, Mass.) took both shots, which were stopped by Manhattan (4-3) goalkeeper Kristen Skonieczny. The Pioneers defense held the Jaspers without a shot for the first 20 minutes of the game. Talia Schwartz (Roslyn, N.Y.) had to make just one save in the first half, stopping an Emily Center header in the 35th minute. Sacred Heart outshot Manhattan 4-2 in the first half, but Skonieczny made three saves to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.
The Pioneers got on the scoreboard two minutes into the second half. Elisa Robiglio (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) intercepted a clearing attempt from the Manhattan defense and fired a shot just under the crossbar from 25 yards out, giving Sacred Heart a 1-0 lead. Dana Cosmedy (Monroe, Conn.) put the Pioneers in front 2-0 in the 64th minute, scoring on a shot from the top of the 18-yard box. Five minutes later, Sacred Heart scored again. Alexis Parlato (Center Moriches, N.Y.) knocked in the rebound of a Jacquelyn Roth (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) shot to make the score 3-0. Parlato returned the favor in the 79th minute, playing a perfect pass through the box to Roth who scored to put Sacred Heart ahead 4-0. The Pioneers' defense was stalwart in the second half, holding the Jaspers to three shots with none on goal.
Sacred Heart outshot Manhattan 16-5 for the game, including a 12-3 margin in the second half. Schwartz had to make just one save for her third shutout of the season, while Skonieczny had seven saves for the Jaspers. Roth had four shots in the game Friday night, three of which were on goal. Dawidczyk had three shots with two on goal. Parlato also had two shots on goal.
The Pioneers wrap up their play in the Yale Classic on Sunday at 12 p.m. against Western Kentucky.
