Box Score LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart men's soccer team wrapped up its season-opening four game road trip with a 5-1 loss to the Siena Saints Tuesday at Siena Turf Field.
Sacred Heart (0-3-1) had two shots on goal in the first 12 minutes from Shaquille Saunchez (Kingston, Jamaica) and Ermir Celaj (Brookfield, Conn.), both saved by Siena (3-0) goalkeeper Josh Weiss. The Saints had shots by Alexander Tejera and Peter Gadze hit the woodwork in the 16th minute. Siena broke through with the game's first goal in the 28th minute. Uros Antic took a cross from Junior Rosero and put it inside the far post to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later, the Saints struck again. Tejera knocked in the rebound of a Tom Allen shot to make the score 2-0. Siena added one more goal before halftime to take a 3-0 lead into the intermission.
Trailing 4-0 in the second half, Sacred Heart got on the scoreboard for its lone goal. In the 65th minute, Christiano Lopes (South Windsor, Conn.) hit a corner kick that was headed in by Julian Linke for his first career goal. Siena added one more goal to make the final score 5-1.
The Saints outshot the Pioneers 20-10 for the game. Tucker Hackett (Madison, Conn.) had three saves for Sacred Heart, as did Weiss for Siena.
The Pioneers will play their home opener on Saturday, September 13 against another Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent in the Marist Red Foxes. Kickoff is at 12 p.m.
