GREENWOOD, IND. – David Garcia Gallego of the Sacred Heart University Men's Soccer Team got named to the College Sport Communicators Academic All-American Second Team for the first time in his career.
David, a senior majoring in business analytics, owns a grade-point average of 3.89. The forward from Leon, Spain is a first-time selection as a second team Academic All-America® selection. He captained Sacred Heart to a 9-5-4 record advancing to the championship round of the MAAC Tournament. He was named the preseason MAAC Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-MAAC First Team.
Garcia Gallego played in all 18 games with 18 starts. He scored a career-high 19 points, leading the team, along with a career-best seven assists and six goals. His best performance came against in-town rival Fairfield University in the second round of the MAAC Tournament getting two regulation assists and then scoring the match-winning goal in overtime to advance to the MAAC Championship Round for the first time in program history.
He finishes his career with 58 games played, 15 goals, 11 assists, 41 points, 6 match-winners and over 5000 career minutes played on the pitch for the Pios.
