Box Score LORETTO, Pa. – The Sacred Heart men's soccer team drew level with the Saint Francis U Red Flash just before halftime at Stokes Soccerplex on Sunday, but the Red Flash scored five unanswered goals in the second half for a 6-1 win.
Saint Francis U (6-3-3, 1-0-0 NEC) opened the scoring in the 40th minute when Troye Kiernan put a cross from Conner Rezende into the lower left corner of the net. Sacred Heart (1-6-1, 0-2-0 NEC) equalized 15 seconds before halftime as Dylan Santos scored off of a Giancarlo Maurello free kick.
The Red Flash took a 2-1 lead in the 51st minute when Mario Mastrangelo jumped on a loose ball in the box and put it past Tucker Hackett. Mastrangelo scored again four minutes later, knocking in the rebound of a Kiernan shot. Kiernan made the score 4-1 in the 61st minute, his second goal of the game. Saint Francis U tacked on two more goals to make the final score 6-1.
Sacred Heart is back in action next Sunday, Oct. 18 with a 1 p.m. game at Bryant.
FIRST HALF
- The first shot on goal in the game didn't come until the 20th minute, when the Red Flash's Conner Rezende had a shot saved by Tucker Hackett leading to a corner kick.
- Murray Cockburn had a shot cleared off the goal line by the Saint Francis U defense in the 25th minute.
- Hackett made his second save of the half in the 33rd minute, denying Jack Webber's header off of a corner kick
- Andy Hall's try to give SHU the lead in the 37th minute was stopped by Andrew Garcia.
SECOND HALF
- Hackett made four saves in the first 12 minutes of the second half, three of which came in the 57th minute.
- Nick Zorbo had the only shot of the second half for the Pioneers in the 81st minute.
