Box Score SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Sacred Heart men's soccer team outshot Bryant 24-16 Sunday at Bulldog Soccer Field, but couldn't overcome a 3-0 halftime deficit in a loss to the Bulldogs.
Bryant (3-6-3, 1-1-1 NEC) opened the scoring in the 29th minute when Teddy Spanos sent home a loose ball in the box off of a corner kick. Three minutes later, Matt Guerriero put a Jason Norat pass inside the left post to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Brett Larocque put Bryant ahead 3-0 two minutes before halftime. Sacred Heart (1-7-1, 0-3-0 NEC) outshot the Bulldogs 16-7 in the second half, but Chris Knaub made nine of his 10 saves in the second to keep the final score 3-0.
The Pioneers are next in action on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at Columbia at 7 p.m.
FIRST HALF
- Mahmoud Kafel, Murray Cockburn, and Shaquille Saunchez each had a shot in the first 14 minutes.
- Tucker Hackett stopped the first shot on goal in the 17th minute from Bryant's Teddy Spanos.
- Saunchez had the Pioneers' first shot on goal in the 41st minute.
- Hackett stopped back-to-back shots from Thomas Binder and Brett Larocque in the 43rd minute.
SECOND HALF
- Kafel had a shot cleared off the goal line in the 52nd minute.
- Cockburn, Ezra Siyadhuba, and Jamal Vinson each had a shot saved by Bryant goalkeeper Chris Knaub in a span of six minutes.
- The Pioneers outshot the Bulldogs 16-7 in the second half, forcing Chris Knaub to make nine saves to preserve his clean sheet.
