FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart football team closes the 2015 season Saturday afternoon, taking on the Wagner Seahawks at 12 p.m. at Campus Field with the Senior Day ceremony beginning at 11:45 a.m.
The Pioneers have a chance at a third consecutive winning season on Saturday. Sacred Heart enters the season finale with a 5-5 record after winning 28-19 at Bryant last week. Junior running back Nate Chavious had a career-high 112 rushing yards and a touchdown in the victory. RJ Noel rushed for two touchdowns and added a touchdown pass. The defense forced six turnovers, including five interceptions, after having just four takeaways in the previous four games combined.
Wide Receiver Tyler Dube is closing in on more Sacred Heart receiving records with one game remaining. He enters Saturday with 1,064 receiving yards this season, putting him 92 yards away from passing DeVeren Johnson's record 1,155 from 2001. His next touchdown will put him past Steve Tedesco as Sacred Heart's career leader in touchdowns. Dube is also 12 receptions away from passing Tedesco as the Pioneers' all-time leader in receptions.
Saturday marks the final day that the Sacred Heart University football Class of 2016 will don their home uniforms on Campus Field. Wagner won its first game of the season last Saturday, defeating Central Connecticut 28-7 to move to 1-9 on the season and 1-4 in the NEC. The Seahawks rushed for 316 yards and four touchdowns, taking a 28-0 lead with 8:57 to play in the third quarter. Otis Wright had a game-high 193 rushing yards on 24 carries with a touchdown.
