Box Score TOWSON, Md. – Quincy McKnight led the game with a career-high 19 points on 8-9 shooting in Sacred Heart's 83-61 loss at Towson on Saturday afternoon at SECU Arena. The Pioneers end their school Division I record six-game road trip with a sixth straight loss to drop to 1-6, while the Tigers won their fifth game in a row to improve to 6-3.
Towson did not trail in the game, holding Sacred Heart scoreless for the first 3:55 as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead. After the Pioneers pulled within one for the first time, 8-7 on a Broome free throw at the 13:59 mark, the Tigers scored the next 13 points to go up 21-9 on a Timajh Parker-Rivera free throw with 9:46 remaining.
SHU would cut the deficit to single digits one more time when McKnight followed a jumper with a steal and transition layup to cut the lead to 23-15 with 7:25 to go, but Towson would once again respond, this time with a 12-2 surge to take it largest lead of the half, 35-17, on a Adala Moto dunk with 5:09 left
The lead would also reach 18, 37-19, when Parker-Rivera made a free throw with 2:41 showing. Sacred Heart would get as close as 12 with six unanswered following that free throw, capped by an Allen layup with 1:03 remaining to bring the score to 37-25, but Towson would score the final five points of the half, highlighted by John Davis' trifecta at the buzzer for a 42-25 advantage at the break
Sacred Heart got as close as ten in the second half when Matej Buovac made a three-pointer with 15;49 on the clock. Towson answered with the next five points, again ending with a Davis trifecta to go ahead 52-37 and the Tiger lead would not get below 12 the remainder of the contest.
12 of McKnight's 19 points came on a perfect 6-6 shooting in the first half. The freshman also set a new career-high with three blocks and added five rebounds. Jordan Allen chipped in with 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Cane Broome was the only other Pioneer in double figures with 10 points and game-highs of four steals and five assists. Filip Nowicki set a new season-high with eight points.
Towson dominated the boards, outrebounding SHU 49-33 leading to a 16-4 advantaged in second chance points, while holding the Pioneers to 35.6 percent shooting. Five Tigers scored in double figures, led by William Adala Moto's double double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. Walter Foster added 15 off the bench, while Parker-Rivera and Byron Hawkins both had 11. John Davis finished with 10.
Sacred Heart hosts Lafayette for its lone non-conference home game on Saturday at 3:30 pm. The game is part of a doubleheader with the women, who will play Binghamton at 1 pm.
