FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women's tennis team opened its dual season with a sweep of Monmouth at the Pioneer Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon. SHU did not drop a set en route to winning all nine matches.
Olivia Podsiebierski swept her opponent at fifth doubles while Tori Oates dropped just one game at sixth singles. Katie DeRienzo, Lindsey Post, and Paige Olson also cruised in straight sets, none losing more than six games. The closest Monmouth came to earning a point was at fourth doubles, but Taylor Gurda held off her competitor, 6-4, 7-6.
It was much of the same at doubles, as DeRienzo and Post, and Oates and Claudia Ruiz, cruised to 6-1 wins in the first and third matches, while Olson and Gurda were victorious by a score of 6-3 at second doubles.
The Pioneers will play their second and final dual match of the fall next Wednesday as they travel to Quinnipiac for a 3 pm start.
