NEW HAVEN, CONN. (October 2, 2016)—The Sacred Heart field hockey team dropped Sunday's game against UMass Lowell 5-0 on Johnson Field. Rebecca Hauser (Mohrsville, Pa.) led the Pioneers' offense with three shots as the team falls to 0-10 on the year.

First Half:

  • The River Hawks struck first, getting on the board in just the second minute of the game. With the SHU defense fighting hard to get the ball out from in front of the goal, UMass-Lowell's Christa Doiron managed to get the right touch pushing it in for the half's only score
  • The Pioneers were outshot 6-1 in the period, with goalkeeper Emily Degennaro (Wading River, N.Y.) making four saves

Second Half:

  • SHU came out strong in the opening minutes of the second half, getting two penalty corners and three shots in the first three minutes, but UMass took over from there scoring its second goal in the 44th minute
  • The second goal spurred a three-goal streak that spanned just six minutes and expanded the River Hawks' lead to 4-0
  • Later on, in the game's 57th minute, UMass tacked on its final goal giving them the 5-0 win
  • Overall, UMass again outshot SHU 11-4 in the period and earned seven penalty corners to SHU's two
