Swimming & Diving Sets Seven Pool Records In Victory

The Sacred Heart University women's swimming and diving team defeated visiting Holy Cross 179-119 Saturday afternoon at the McCann Natatorium in Milford, Conn .  The victory improved the Pioneers dual meet record to 4-1, equaling last seasons win total, and was the programs first over the Crusaders.

The Pioneers posted seven pool records on Saturday, with rookie Lauren Somers playing a role in four of those, three individual, on her way to four victories on the afternoon.  Jessica Poole earned three wins for SHU, while Anna Brown (two wins) and Kim Hylan both set pool records on the day.

The Pioneers host Assumption on Saturday, November 12 in their next dual meet.  That meet is scheduled to begin at noon at the McCann Natatorium.

FREESTYLE

  • The Pioneers won four of the individual freestyle events, setting pool records in each victory
  • Somers captured first place in the three sprint freestyle events and her 200 freestyle is currently the fastest time in the NEC this season
  • Hylan earned the win in the 500 freestyle, in a time of 5:22.03
STROKES
  • Brown captured both backstroke events, winning the 100 back in a time of 1:01.07
  • Jessica Poole earned the top spot in both breaststroke events, winning the 100 in a time of 1:09.91 and the 200 in a time of  2:33.48
  • Bryana Cielo earned her first collegiate individual win in the 100 butterfly, touching at 1:02.42

 DIVING

 RELAYS
  • Somers, Crosby, Decas and Dion combined to win the 200 freestyle relay for the Pioneers, shaving 5.54 seconds off of the old records
  • SHU's 400 medley relay, comprised of Hylan, Poole, Cielo and Dion, posted a 4:05.17 winning time, setting a pool record in the process.
  • The Pioneers B Relay, Shanna Haddow, Julia Pedersen, Victoria Catizone and Hylan, touched at 1:43.20, 1.25 seconds under the previous pool record
