
Matt Jones Joins Philadelphia Union

PHILADELPHIA – Former Sacred Heart men's soccer goalkeeper Matt Jones was acquired by the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer (MLS) on Tuesday via loan from Belenenses of Portugal's Primeira Liga.
Jones, who graduated from Sacred Heart in 2009, helped Belenenses win promotion in the 2012-13 season. Belenenses won the Segunda Liga that season with Jones recording 16 shutouts in 35 games. Jones was loaned to C.D. Tondela prior to this season where he played in 11 games.
In his four seasons at Sacred Heart, Jones was a three-time All-NEC selection. Jones was a Second Team All-NEC selection in 2005 as a freshman as SHU reached its first-ever NEC Tournament. He was twice named First Team All-NEC in 2007 and 2008. Jones finished his career with a 1.10 goals against average and 20 career clean sheets.
