Carlson, McCann One-Hit Quinnipiac in 4-0 Victory

Box Score

FAIRFIELD, CONN. (April 14, 2016)—Jamie Carlson (Corona, Calif.) and Kristen McCann (Phoenix, Ariz.) allowed the Bobcats just one hit as the Sacred Heart softball team shutout Quinnipiac 4-0 Thursday at Pioneer Park. Sophomore Lauren Delgadillo (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) went 2-2 at the plate scoring one run and knocking one in as the Pioneers snapped a five-game winless streak to improve to 10-22-1 on the season.

SHU is back in action this weekend resuming Northeast Conference play against Saint Francis U Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and Robert Morris Sunday at 12:00 p.m. at home.

The Basics:

Score: SHU 4 – Quinnipiac 0

Location: Pioneer Park, Fairfield, Conn.

New Records: SHU 10-22-1; Quinnipiac 14-18

The Highlights:

  • Carlson and McCann combined to allow just one hit, shutting out Quinnipiac
  • Delgadillo went 2-2 at the plate, reaching base every at bat, scoring once and collecting one RBI
  • Hannah Ford (New Fairfield, Conn.) got the game-winning RBIs in the second inning

For the Foes:

  • Keilani Finley had the Bobcats' only hit of the game, reaching on a single up the middle off Carlson in the top of the fourth
  • Kendall Brundrett went the distance pitching all six innings, striking out five Pioneers in the process

How It Happened:

  • After neither team was able to score in the first, Quinnipiac got its first baserunner of the game in Dani Edmands in the second inning, but were unable to bring her home as Carlson got the next three straight batters out
  • Victoria D'Addario (Lincoln Park, N.J.) got things started for SHU in the bottom of the inning with a single to right field. The junior moved to second as McKenna Wiegand (Gilbert, Ariz.) punched a single through the right side. With two outs, Ford came to the plate and sent one flying to left field. Quinnipiac's Sarah Heimbach lost the ball in the sun allowing two runs to score. The Pioneers had one more run in them that inning as Delgadillo collected her first hit sending Ford home
  • The Bobcats threatened in the fourth inning putting two runners in scoring position, but Carlson worked out of the jam preventing a run from scoring
  • Delgadillo and Hailey Desrosiers (Cypress, Calif.) led off the fifth inning with back-to-back singles before Kelyn Fillmore (Simi Valley, Calif.) reached on a fielders choice. With runners on the corners, pinch-runner Addison Landry (North Falmouth, Mass.) took off to steal second garnering the throw down. Quinnipiac's catcher's throw went wild though allowing Delgadillo to come home
