
Women's Hockey completes weekend sweep with 4-2 win

SHELTON, Conn. – Sacred Heart scored three first-period goals on their way to a 4-2 win over Lebanon Valley in women's ice hockey action on Saturday. The Pioneers improved to 18-8-1, while the Dutchmen slipped to 2-16.
Sacred Heart first got on the board when Amie Varano scored at 9:28 of the first assisted by Taylor Moreland. Two and a half minutes later, Katie Stueve netted a goal to make it 2-0 Pioneers assisted by Jayne Lewis. Lebanon Valley would respond with two seconds left on the clock through Freshman MacKenzie Bokina, assisted by D'Ginto and Lloyd off the power play.
SHU would extend there lead early in the Second Period with Amie Varano netting her second of the game with a long range effort, assisted by Moreland and Lewis.
Lebanon Valley would again respond to make it 3-2 and try to mount a comeback with a goal by D'Ginto, assisted by Smith to reduce SHU's lead to one goal. SHU would respond just over a minute later to take a two goal lead once again with Jayne Lewis also getting her second of the game, from Moreland, her third assist of the game and Hersey.
The third period would finish goaless with SHU winning 4-2.
The Pioneers are back in action Friday, Feb. 10 when they host Rhode Island at 8:00 pm
