Pioneers Edged by Bryant in Double Overtime

Box Score

SMITHFIELD, R.I.— A goal in the second overtime by Bryant's Charlie Booth gave the home team the 2-1 edge over the Sacred Heart men's soccer team on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (2-8-2, 2-1-1 NEC) jumped to the early lead over the Pioneers (3-10-1, 0-3-1 NEC) at Bulldog Soccer Field as Anthony Barreria scored in the sixth minute. Barreria was net front to chip in the rebound off a deflection by sophomore Robert Strain.

After being outshot 4-3 in the first half SHU kicked up the tempo in the second half, putting up nine shots. The Pioneers were able to get on the board in the 77th minute as senior Ezra Siyadhuba played a cross into the box for Julian Linke, who headed the ball to the back-left corner of the goal to tie the game up 1-1. Both overtimes went in Bryant's favor as the Pioneers were held without a shot. Booth's game winner came off the free kick save by Strain on Felipe Cypriano's shot. Booth collected the punch out and sent one to the bottom left of the goal to seal the game.

In the even matchup, the Bulldog's outshot the Pioneers 13-12 with both teams putting four shots on goal. Strain made two saves on the game, both coming in each overtime. Nick Stewart made three saves in goal for Bryant.
