
SHU Fencing Puts On Strong Showing at Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.— The Sacred Heart men's and women's fencing teams had a phenomenal showing at the 2017 Vassar invitational on Sunday. The Pioneers went a combined 11-3 at the annual meet hosted by Vassar College.
The women's fencing team went 5-2 on the day. After opening the meet 0-2, SHU rattled off five straight wins to close the meet. The Pioneers defeated LIU 19-8, FDU 16-11, Yeshiva 25-2, CCNY 26-1 and Incarnate Word 16-11.
The men's team opened with a close 14-13 loss to Haverford before ending the afternoon with six straight wins. The Pioneers bested Yeshiva 25-2, Army West Point 23-4, Hunter 22-5, Stevens Tech 15-12, Drew 19-8 and Incarnate Word 22-5 for a stellar opening team meet.
The Pioneers will travel to Brown University for the first NFC meet of the season on Saturday, November 18.
