Jamie Carlson Named NEC Pitcher Of The Week

Jamie Carlson was a force on the mound this week, blanking the Iona Gaels, and opened up NEC play for the Pioneers with a 2-0 win against CCSU. Carlson currently leads the NEC in strikeouts with 95 as SHU sits 1-1 in the northeast conference. Carlson, the Corona, California native has recieved the NEC Pitcher of the week for the second time this season.

Carlson twirled two complete-game shutouts last week, victimizing Central Connecticut and MAAC member Iona. In three appearances, Sacred Heart's ace totaled 14.2 innings and did not surrender a run. Carlson allowed only nine hits and three walks while striking out 17 batters last week. Going the distance in a 4-0 win over Iona, Carlson allowed five hits and struck out seven. Next time out, she limited CCSU to four hits and no runs in a 2-0 complete-game triumph. The senior came out of the bullpen in the eighth inning of Game 2 against CCSU, retiring the only two batters she faced.
