SHU Men's Soccer Releases 2017 Schedule

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart Men's Soccer Head Coach Joe Barroso announced the Pioneers' 2017 schedule on Tuesday. The Pioneers will open the season on the new Park Avenue Field on Friday, August 25 at 12 p.m. against NJIT.

"We're looking forward to our first season at Park Avenue Field," Barroso said. "Our non-conference schedule will give us some good tests as we prepare to build on last season's success and another run at the NEC Tournament."

Non-Conference Slate:

After opening the season at home, the Pioneers will play three straight road games at UMass (August 27), Manhattan (Aug. 31), and Seton Hall (Sept. 4).
SHU will then play four consecutive home games, beginning Sept. 9 against Saint Peter's at 2 p.m. The Pioneers follow the fixture with the Peacocks with games against St. Joseph's on Sept. 12, Siena on Sept. 16, and Iona on Sept. 20. SHU opened the 2016 season with a 2-1 win at Iona and also earned a 1-1 draw at Siena.
The Pioneers will travel to Army West Point on Sept. 26 and Stony Brook on Oct. 3 before Northeast Conference play opens. SHU will also play at Columbia on Nov. 1.

Northeast Conference Slate:

SHU opens NEC play against LIU Brooklyn on Oct. 8 at Park Avenue Field. That match is followed by a trip to the defending NEC champions St. Francis Brooklyn on Oct. 13. SHU took on the Terriers in last season's NEC Tournament.
After an Oct. 15 match against Central Connecticut at Park Avenue Field, SHU goes on the road to face Bryant (Oct. 22), Saint Francis U (Oct. 27), and Robert Morris (Oct. 29). The Pioneers beat both Robert Morris and Bryant last season during their charge towards an NEC Tournament berth.
SHU closes the regular season at home against Fairleigh Dickinson on Nov. 5. The Pioneers beat the Knights 2-0 on the final day of the regular season last year to clinch its first appearance in the NEC Tournament since 2011.
