Box Score WEST POINT, N.Y.— The Sacred Heart women's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2017 season 1-0 over Army West Point as junior Melanie DaSilva headed a cross from sophomore Kylie Roberts past Sydney Cassilia in the 104th minute.
The Black Knights (1-3-1) controlled the opening 45 minutes, outshooting the Pioneers 8-3. SHU pushed the tempo in the second half, besting Army West Point 8-4 on shots. After a standstill first overtime period of golden goal, SHU got a break in the 104th minute as freshman Emily Rosso dished a lead pass to Roberts who hooked a cross from the right side to DaSilva who was there to put it in the back of the net.
Sacred Heart produced its highest shot total of the season with 13. Junior Lindsay Corallo led the way with five shots. DaSilva matched her career season-high with her third goal of the season. While Roberts and Rosso notched their first collegiate points on the assists. Junior Nicole Sambuco made four big stops in goal for the ninth shutout of her career.
The Pioneers will play for the third time in five days when they travel to UMass Lowell on Sunday, September 3 for a 2:00 p.m. start.
First Half
- Sambuco picked up two quick saves in the 9th minute.
- Corallo fired one from the left side for SHU's first shot on goal at 25:18 but Cassalia was there for the stop.
- Erynn Johns had a one-on-one chance against Sambuco at 41:54 but the junior net minder extended for the save.
Second Half
- SHU started early with two shots in the opening five minutes of the half.
- The Pioneer defense picked up a team save on a shot by Brianna Nicholas from seven yards out at 62:57.
- Sambuco's final save of the game came in the 77th minute on a chance by Johns.
- Freshman Julianna Klaum with her first career shot on goal at 88:30 but was stopped by Cassalia

- Corallo missed wide with the Pioneers lone shot in first overtime at 99:08

- DaSilva's game winner at 104:43 was her second career goal against Army West Point
