Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Heartbreaker To Siena

The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 double overtime decision to visiting Siena College on Park Avenue Field Saturday afternoon.  The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-5 on the year, while the Saints improve to 1-2-3.

Siena earned the win with five seconds left in the second overtime, when Adel Cekic put the ball into the box and Alexander Tejera put it in the back of the net.

The Pioneers struck first, scoring 5:46 into the game. Riley Sullivan tapped in an Oscar Curras pass for his first goal of the season.  The Saints tied the game at the 26:34 mark on an unassisted goal from Alejandro Riquelme, who beat his defender and put the ball into the opposite corner.

SHU had a 25-9 advantage in shots in the game, including a 5-3 edge in the extra periods.  The Pioneers finished with eight corner kicks, while the Saints earned seven. 

Aleksa Radosavljevic made seven saves in net for Siena to earn the win.  Robert Strain stopped three shots for the Pioneers.

SHU returns to action on Wednesday, September 20 at 4pm when it hosts Iona on Park Avenue Field.
