Men's Tennis Picks Up First Victory of the Season At UConn 4-3

STORRS, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University Men's Tennis team picked up its first win of the season this afternoon as the Pioneers nearly edged in-state rival UCONN 4-3. The Pioneers will return to action on Monday Oct. 14 as SHU travels to face local rival Fairfield. Matches begin at 2:30 p.m.
The Pioneers dominated singles play as SHU picked up four victories. Senior Seiji Hosokawa picked up a win defeating John Holtmann 6-4, 6-7 (0), 6-3. Meanwhile sophomore William Wibmer earned a win against Rami Scheetz in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Ayman Khan also picked up a striaght set win over Christian Provenzano 6-4, 6-1. Junior Lucca Casalduc rounded out the singles victories defeating Evan Powell in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles play, the Pioneers picked up one victory as the duo of Abdo and Casalduc defeated Alex Yu and Luke Riemann 6-1.
