
Softball Splits Home-Opener Against Hartford Taking Second Game 4-0

FAIRFIELD, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University Softball split its double header this afternoon against Hartford as the Hawks took the first game 3-1 while SHU prevailed in the second game by a final score of 4-0. The Pioneers will return to action on Tuesday, Mar.26 when SHU hosts Stony Brook for a double-header. First-pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
Game One
Hartford 3, Sacred Heart 1
The Scoring
- Top of the 2nd - A sacrifice fly to center field by Ally Beck would put Hartford ahead 1-0.
- Top of the 2nd- A single by Madison Hilimire would lead to a run scoring off a throwing error to put Hartford ahead 2-0.
- Top of the 6th – Amber Mianti would reach first on an error scoring in Haily Cassidy from third to put the Hawks ahead 3-0.
- Bottom of the 6th- A solo homerun by first-year Alyssa Gonzalez to center field would be the lone run for the Pioneers making the final score 3-1.
The Numbers
- The Pioneers would outhit Hartford seven to six in the game.
- First-year Alyssa Gonzalez led the way for the Pioneers in hits as she went 2-3 at the plate with one homerun.
- Sophomore Shyanne Fennell would tally the loss going all seven innings, giving up one earned run on six hits and striking out two batters.

Hartford 0, Sacred Heart 4
The Scoring
- Bottom of the 1st- It would be all Pioneers in the second game as sophomore Kylee Harvey would rip a single to right field scoring in senior Hailey Desrosiers to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0.
- Bottom of the 1st- An RBI groundout by Alyssa Gonzalez would score in senior Stephanie Mangiameli to put the Pioneers ahead 2-0.
- Bottom of the 2nd- Mangiameli would rip a double to left field scoring in Desrosiers to put the Pioneers ahead 3-0.
- Bottom of the 6th- An RBI single by Desrosiers would score in first-year Brianna Santos to put the Pioneers ahead 4-0 and to give them the victory.
The Numbers
- The Pioneers would dominate the hitting game as SHU outhit Hartford six to one in the game.
- At the plate, senior Hailey Desrosiers led the way for the Pioneers going 3-4 with a double and an RBI.
- In the circle it was all about senior Emily Orosco as she went all seven innings giving up just one hit and striking out nine batters. She improves her record to 4-2 on the season.
