
Men's Fencing Takes Part in Penn Dual Meet

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Back in action after over a month off due to winter break, the Sacred Heart men's fencing team took part in the Penn Dual Meet on Saturday. The Pioneers finished the day with one victory and four defeats but the Pioneers' foil unit managed a winning record on the team, finishing 3-2 in the five rounds of bouts at Penn.
- SHU dominated the first round, defeating Lafayette 20-7 including a 9-0 sweep in the epee and 8-1 victory in the foil. Trent Miller (foil), Lucas Wetmore (foil), Bennett Cohen (epee), Cameron Silver (epee) and Nicolo Cerminara (epee) all went 3-0 in their respective events to lead the way for the Pioneers
- Against UNC, the Pioneers managed 6-3 and 5-4 defeats in the foil and epee, respectively, on the way to a 19-8 loss. Lawrence Tan went 2-1 in the foil while Cohen went 2-1 in the epee disciplines
- With a tough matchup against Duke, the Pioneers dropped a 22-5 decision, scoring two points in the foil and epee rounds as Tan (foil) and Silver (epee) each went 2-1 with their weapons
- After scoring 6-3 wins in both the foil and epee rounds, SHU suffered a 9-0 defeat to Haverford in the saber to fall by a score of 15-12
- In the final round of the day against the host Penn, SHU took down a 5-4 foil victory before taking a 5-4 defeat in the epee and 9-0 loss in the saber to fall by an 18-9 margin to the Quakers. Tan dominated in the foil, going 3-0 to finish the day with a 7-2 overall record while Silver claimed two more wins in the epee as SHU put up a strong fight against the Ivy League power
