Grant earns third-straight award.
SOMERSET, N.J. – In the rematch of the spring Northeast Conference title game, the Sacred Heart University football team dominated Duquesne on both sides of the ball. The Pioneers were rewarded Monday when Malik Grant was named Offensive Player of the Week and Kevin Peprah grabbed Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office.
It's the third-straight award and fourth of the season for Grant while Peprah was recognized for the first time. Peprah split the defensive award with Bryant's Joe Andreessen, whose teammate Zevi Eckhaus earned Rookie of the Week. LIU's Paul Inzerillo garnered Special Teams Player of the Week.
For the third week in a row, Grant topped 180 yards with 186 yards on 34 carries and two touchdowns. He has five scores in the last two weeks. The Bronx, NY native is the first FCS rushers in the country to cross 1,000 yards. He leads the FCS with 129.9 yards per game and 1,039 rushing yards which ranks him 10th in a season.
Against Duquesne, Peprah recorded a team-high five tackles with 1.5 sacks. The Woodbridge, Va. native also had a forced fumble and pass break up. He needs one more sack to move into the top 10 on the single-season list. Peprah helped lead a SHU defense that limited the NEC's number one offense to just 13 points and none in the second half.
SHU has a bye week before going to St. Francis on November 6.
