Francesca Giammona joins staff as assistant coach.
FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey head coach Thomas O'Malley announced the addition of Francesca Giammona as the new assistant coach.
"I am very happy to have Francesca Giammona join our coaching staff," head coach O'Malley stated. "I know that she is passionate about the game. Along with her experience and knowledge, both as a player and a coach, she will help contribute to the overall success of our team."
Giammona comes to SHU from Division III ACHA Lindenwood for her DI college hockey debut.
In her first collegiate coaching position, she assisted the Lions to a 14-10 season. The Lions qualified nationally as the number four seed. At the end of the 2021 season, they achieved a number two ranking nationally at the ACHA level.
Giammona started her developmental coaching career at a sports camp for all boys. She was the first and only female hockey director at Camp Mah-Kee-Nac, where she was responsible for growing the program.
Later in her career after her six-year stint at the all-boys camp, she coached over two years with the Islanders Elite hockey program ages 10u through 19u.
As a player, she was a member of the SUNY Cortland D3 Women's Hockey team during her undergraduate studies. In the spring of 2020, she graduated from Adelphi University with a Masters in Sports Management.
Giammona will assist with forwards and defensive players for the Red & White.
