Alexa Ocel leads the team with six assists and four goals.
WINTHROP, Mass. — After having a hand in four of the Sacred Heart University women ice hockey team's nine goals this past weekend, Alexa Ocel nabbed her first NEWHA Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. Ocel aided in serving up Post's first two conference losses of the season to position themselves tied for second with the Eagles.
This is the first time the forward received recognition since the 2019-20 campaign when she secured Rookie of the Week on February 18 following the final game of the regular.
Ocel had a strong weekend against conference in-state opponent Post in back-to-back victories on Friday and Saturday. She tallied two assists in the first game to aid in 5-1 victory over the Eagles.
The Plymouth, Minn. native came to the support of first-year Katie Keenan in the game-tying goal in the first period, followed by the eventual winning shot by Kennedy Spiering in the second.
The junior bookended her goals by drilling in the first and final goals of the night in the 4-0 shutout over the Eagles. On the other side of the blue line, Ocel blocked two potential goals for the Eagles to keep the goose egg on the board.
Ocel is second in NEWHA with eight points, half of which stemmed from this past weekend. She is also second in a team-leading six assists. She is tied for first on the team with four goals.
LIU snatched two awards with Bri Eid as Rookie of the Week and Sasha Hartje as Defensive Player of the Week. Saint Anselm's Allie Kelley garnered Goaltender of the Week.
The Red & White hosts a two-game series on November 5-6 against Saint Anslem, with puck drops at 4 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
