Lorenz and Squire will join Sacred Heart for the 2022 season
FAIRFIELD, Conn.— Head coach of the Sacred Heart University men's soccer team Joe Barroso is happy to announce the addition of forward Zach Lorenz and goalkeeper Evan Squire to the team for the 2022 season.
"We are thrilled to announce our first two signings for the 2022 season,'' Barroso said. "Both Zach and Evan are extremely competitive, determined and hardworking," said Barroso. "Knowing what both young men will bring to the program from a mentality point of view was key and both Zach and Evan have great character. We will be announcing future members of this class in the weeks and months ahead to round out the class."
Zach Lorenz
Lorenz comes to Sacred Heart from Murrysville, Pa, after a post-graduate year at The Woodstock Academy. He was a standout at Franklin Regional Senior High School, where he scored 15 goals and added 22 assists in his senior season. Lorenz was also a part of the Panthers' back-to-back state championships and earned numerous accolades, including All-Section, All-WPIAL and All-American Watch List. In addition, Lorenz led his club team, Century United, to a pair of state championships. Off the field, Lorenz earned honor distinction and is a member of the National Honors Society.
"Zach is a fantastic student and humble competitor whose work rate stood out to us," said Barroso. "We look forward to working with Zach and helping him transition to the physical demands of college soccer. He's a technical forward with pace, an excellent soccer IQ and finishes with composure."
Evan Squire
Squire arrives in Fairfield from Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. where he was a part of four-straight league championships and the 2019 Division III North Championship at Beford High School. He recorded 15 saves in 26 appearances in his high school career and was selected league MVP during the 2021 season. Squire plays for the club team Krajisnik F.C. and tallied 16 saves. Off the field, he was named to the Academic Honor Roll.
"Evan is an athletic goalkeeper with presence, who will add competition and depth to our group of goalkeepers," said Barroso. "He is a very competitive young man with a big wingspan which makes him hard to beat. We look forward to welcoming Evan and his family into our program."
