STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— The Sacred Heart University track & field team competed at its first indoor meet of the season at the St. John's Bill Ward Invitational. Sixteen Pioneers finished in the top 5, including four first-place finishes.
On the men's side, the Pioneers saw two first year members claim a victory.
Joseph Morrone set a new school record in the 300 meters with 34.64, surpassing Sebastian Pierre, who had 34.78 at the Boston University Season Opener in 2017.
Owen Nassaney won the high jump with a height of 2.03m. Other top individual finishes included
Rafael Mahario in the long jump (3
rd - 6.97m),
Cameron Croce in the weight throw (3
rd - 16.84m), and
Bryan Bushey (4
th - 9.11 (PR)) and
Corey Duncanson (5
th - 9.28) in the 60-meter hurdles.
The team of
Lance Hayes,
Jordan Leon,
Kevin Martin and
Shane Negast placed fourth in the 4x800 with a time of 8:13.65.
For the women, Nicole Szilagyi won the 60-meter hurdles with a personal best of 9.07. Jennifer Pasram placed first in the pole vault with a personal best of 3.35 meters. First-year members Sydney Abitanto (3
rd - 3.20m) and Jenna Engels (4
th - 3.05m) also finished in the top five in the event. Other top-five finishes included Isabella Rogler (5
th - 10:44.92) in the 3,000 meter, Sarah Lamoreaux (5
th - 1.50m) in the high jump, Kaylee Stenderowicz (3
rd - 11.17m) in the triple jump, Abbie Mokwuah (5
th - 12.46m) in the shot put and Allison Plante (3
rd - 14.27m) in the weight throw.
Emily Bloom, Sarah Mandelkow, Kelly Parker and Megan Schneider competed in the 4x800 relay, claiming third place with a time of 10:06.80.
Both teams head to the Rhode Island Men's Heptathlon Qualifier next weekend followed by the Yale Season Opener on Saturday.
