Men's Fencing Narrowly Drops Two at St. John's

QUEENS, N.Y. — Despite two close rounds, the Sacred Heart University men's fencing program fell 0-2 on the day against St. John's on Sunday. In the final meet of the season, the team went 12-15 in the first round, with a close 13-14 defeat in round two.

Round 1:

The Pioneers came out on top with a 7-2 victory over St. John's in the epee event.
Troy Kapitzke garnered the fourth point for the squad in his 5-3 defeat against the Red Storm's only epee fencer to compete Jack Bell.
Sacred Heart captured the 5-4 win against the Johnnies in the foil.
Lawrence Tan led the foil threesome by winning all three of his bouts, followed by Tomas Koeck and Petar Janicijevic Agatonovic, who both won one.
SHU dropped 9-0 against St. John's in the saber despite two of Domenic Bartolo's three bouts in a close 4-5 defeat.

Round 2:

The epee team went 9-0 against SJU with Luke Fenwick, Kapitzke and Cameron Silver all winning one bout against Bell.
The Pioneers dropped 6-3 against the Jonnies foil team with Koeck winning two bouts and Jancijevic tallying one.
SHU's saber squad fell 8-1 to SJU, with Vijay Ganta recording the only point.
