FAIRFIELD, Conn. — In a last-minute non-conference game, the Sacred Heart University field hockey team closed out the season at Fairfield with a 5-0 loss Day on Saturday. The Pioneers concluded the season 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the Northeast Conference.
SHU's shots on goal discrepancy hindered its play with a single attempt compared to the 14 Fairfield fired.
First-year Erin Burgess made her debut between the posts with nine saves. The Stags' Kelly Buckley led the charge with two back-to-back goals to close out the third and fourth periods to seal the victory.
Head coach Sydney Van Merwe should have another contender in the fall as he brings back 100% of his goal scorers but does have to replace goalkeeper Hailey Power.
